Antique Prince Charlie tartan ware mauchline ware trinket box, Scotland, ca. 1880
Lovely antique 19th century Prince Charlie tartan ware trinket box or jewellery box.
This hinged lidded box with red velvet interior was made by the Scottish Smith factory in the town of Mauchline in Scotland.
It is made of wood covered with paper in Prince Charlie tartan pattern and then lacquered. The Prince Charlie clan name can be seen on the top of the lid.
Measurements:
Ca 10.5 x 7 x 4.5 cm (4 1/4 x 2 3/4 x 1 3/4 inch)
This antique box has been used but is in excellent condition, considering it dates from the 1880s.
There is some slight wear and signs of use to the exterior and the red velvet interior is faded, but otherwise this box has stood the test of time and is still in remarkable condition for its age.
A lovely item for the keen collector of antique mauchline or tartan ware.
